There’s something slightly terrifying about finally doing the thing you’ve been talking about doing forever.

I uploaded my first YouTube videos.

A year later than I originally planned, but they’re up.

And now I’m officially building Modicum Archive in public.

I wish I could tell you everything was perfectly planned before I started. It wasn’t. I’m figuring out cameras, editing, color, thumbnails, my website, what I actually want to talk about, and what kind of creator I want to be, all while making the content.

And I think I actually prefer it this way.

The footage isn’t always going to be perfect

My Charlotte Weekend vlog taught me this immediately.

Some of the footage wasn’t as clear as I wanted. Some of my camera settings needed work. Editing took way longer than expected. There were things I didn’t notice until I was already deep into the edit.

But I decided I wasn’t throwing the footage away.

This Archive isn’t supposed to be a collection of perfect moments. It’s supposed to document my actual life and the process of figuring things out.

So the vlog gets posted.

Then I fix the camera settings.

Then I make the next one better.

I’m building systems around the creativity

This has probably been my favorite part.

Modicum Archive isn’t just about making videos. I’ve been building the little systems behind everything so creating doesn’t constantly feel chaotic.

I’m organizing my content ideas, building out my website, creating editing workflows, figuring out how I want to repurpose content, learning DaVinci Resolve, experimenting with AI tools, and creating templates I can reuse instead of reinventing everything every week.

Future me deserves a little help.

That’s becoming a pretty big theme around here.

Next up: Fall Reset

Right now I’m working on my Fall Reset vlog.

It’s less about showing a perfectly reset house and more about documenting what I want to work on this season.

I’m going through my wardrobe, looking at a few home projects I want to tackle, getting serious about finally listing things on Poshmark and Depop, and making my List of Wants.

There will also be breakfast, bread making, everyday life, and plenty of B-roll because apparently I’ve become a person who thinks about B-roll while making breakfast.

Life comes at you fast.

And then there’s Vlogtober

Vlogtober starts October 1.

Which feels mildly unhinged considering I just started consistently uploading.

But I’m doing it anyway.

I don’t expect October to be perfect. I expect it to teach me a lot.

I’ll learn what I actually enjoy filming, what takes too much time, what deserves a full vlog, what should just be a TikTok, and what nobody needs to see at all.

That’s kind of the point.

I’m not waiting until I have the perfect workflow, perfect camera settings, perfect website, perfect editing style, or perfect content strategy.

I’m building all of that while I’m doing it.

So this is where the Archive begins.

Not when everything is finished.

Right here, while I’m figuring it out.
